The first documented description of autism dates back to 1911 by Eugen Bleuler, who referred to the term as "schizophrenia of the child." In 1943, Leo Kanner coined the term “early childhood autism.” A significant publication came in 1977 by Bernard Rimland with the work "Autism: Developmental Disorders of the Brain". The 1980s saw a boom in behavioral and early intervention programs in the treatment of autism.
