The longissimus cervicis is a long muscle along the spine in the neck area. It runs from the thoracic vertebrae to the occipital bones and is responsible for straightening and stabilizing the spine. The longissimus cervicis also plays a role in lateral flexion and rotation of the spine, as well as postural control. It is one of the most important muscles of the neck and contributes to upright posture.
