The abductor pollicis longus is a muscle located in the forearm. It runs from the ulna and the radius to the base of the first metacarpal bone and the trapezium. The abductor pollicis longus primarily functions to abduct and extend the thumb, moving it away from the palm and towards the back of the hand.
